How can I sign a message?

We would like to warn you that signing a message requires some advanced knowledge of wallets and Bitcoin. Not all wallets (unfortunately) offer this functionality. Signing a message is a cryptographic measure to prove your ownership of your bitcoin address via the wallet (and the associated private key).

In short this means; we will give you a message and you have to place it in the message signing functionality of the wallet. You sign this message and the wallet returns a so-called "signature". You copy this signature (a long string of numbers and letters) and paste it into the input field on our website. This proves you are the owner of the relevant bitcoin address.

The following wallets support this functionality;

  • Bitcoin Core
  • Electrum
  • Ledger
  • Samoerai wallet
  • Coinomi
  • Blockchain.info

How it works varies per wallet. We will therefore provide a separate FAQ per wallet on how to find and use this function.

In the form on our website you will see several parts, first of all;

  • The message you need to sign
  • The bitcoin address you have to verify
  • The input field to enter the signature
