Vacancy for a back-end developer

Bitonic is looking for a back-end developer!

p> Bitonic is a full service Bitcoin company with the motto: Bitcoin for everyone. In April of 2012 we were the first company in the Netherlands to start selling bitcoins using the iDEAL payment method. We then extended our services and in April of this year our newly developed bitcoin exchange called ‘BL3P’ went live (invite only). We have become a leading Bitcoin company in the Netherlands. While we are very proud of our achievements so far, we still want to explore many more interesting plans and ideas. That is why we are looking for a back-end developer who can share his or her passion for Bitcoin with us and participate in realizing our goals.

What we expect from you

p> You are a talented all-round developer with a focus on back-end systems. You consider it a challenge to build and maintain complex systems in which data integrity, security and performance are of the highest priority. OOP and MVC are terms that are familiar to you. You are able to write clear, well-structured code that (almost) does not require any explanation. You work independently and you are innovative, progressive and motivated to deliver a high-quality product.

p> You are a team player, flexible, curious and you do not have a 9-to-5 mentality. You do not wait for a list of task items from a project manager, but you proactively think of improvements and elaborate on new features. What we look for is someone with at least:

• 5 years of programming experience, of which preferably 3+ years professional
• Bachelor best-of-class or Master level (A diploma is not required)
• Knowledge of HTML5/CSS3, PHP5, Java, JQuery, (My)SQL
• Affinity with Bitcoin
• Some Unreal Tournament skills are considered advantageous

p> We are well advanced with professionalizing our (OTAP) production process, using for example: Docker, Saltstack, SVN, Trac. It would be a bonus if you know your way around these applications, but it is not considered a must. Finally, it is good to know that we work with open source software as much as possible. Our systems all run on Linux, so some (or a lot of) experience with this OS is desirable.

What can you expect from us

p>If you like Bitcoin as much as we do, you are in for a treat. We are the first and the most well-known Bitcoin company in the Netherlands. One of the advantages for you is that you will be able to participate on the highest level and your work can really make a difference. You will have many responsibilities, without having to put up with any bureaucracy or the formal environment typically found in larger companies.

p> We enjoy working hard, but we also have a lot of fun, listen to music and find ways to relax between the long working hours. Our office is on a nice location in Baarn, at only a five minute walk from the train station.

p> The vacancy concerns a job of 32-40 hours a week. The salary may be a little below the competitive level, because we are still in a startup phase. As soon as the possibility arises, the salary will be adjusted. Next to the salary we offer an (extensive) daily lunch and we cover travel expenses. Extra days off and possibilities for training are negotiable.
