How to protect my account?
Recommendations for improving the security of your account
Here are some simple yet effective guidelines to create secure PINs, passwords, and 2FA setups. By adhering to these recommendations, you can enhance the security of your account and your bitcoin.
The most important rule: never share account information with anyone ā ever ā including Bitonic, financial institutions or family members.
PIN
- Avoid using easily guessable PINs such as '12345', '00000', or '11111'.
- Avoid using personal information like your birthday or anniversary dates when creating your PIN.
- Do not reuse PINs across different accounts. Each account should have a unique PIN.
Password
- Avoid using personal information like your birthday, anniversary dates or family names when creating your password.
- Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
- Consider using a password manager to remember your secure passwords and generate strong ones.
Two-factor authentication
- When choosing an authenticator app, choose one that can be password protected.
- Keep your 2FA backup codes offline, safe and secure in case you lose access to your primary 2FA method.
- Make sure your authenticator app doesn't synchronise with the cloud.
Lastly, remember that no security measure is 100% foolproof, but following these guidelines can significantly reduce the risk of your account being compromised.
