How do I sign a message with my personal wallet?

You can verify your bitcoin address by signing a cryptographic message via message signing. This process proves you own the bitcoin address. A signed message consists of three parts:

  1. The message itself (provided by Bitonic).
  2. The bitcoin address you want to verify.
  3. The cryptographic proof of signing, generated by your wallet.

General steps for message signing:

  1. Open your wallet app.
  2. Go to the message signing menu. This may be located under options like Advanced Settings or Tools.
  3. Enter the message provided by Bitonic.
  4. Select the bitcoin address you wish to verify.
  5. Click the option to sign. The wallet will now generate a cryptographic message.
  6. Copy the signed message and paste it according to Bitonic’s instructions.

What should you keep in mind?

  • Not all wallets support message signing. Check whether your wallet has this feature. Popular wallets such as Electrum, Ledger, Trezor, and some mobile wallets often offer this option.
  • Ensure you select the correct bitcoin address (the one you wish to verify).
  • Take your time to carefully follow your wallet’s instructions; an error during signing may require the verification process to be repeated.
